The students this year have worked very hard learning the process of a Mystery Skype. Students have learned to develop excellent questions in order to assist them in locating the class we were Skyping with. Students were very successful in honing their creativity, knowledge and problem solving skills. Our class learned about similarities and differences in our lives here and Ontario during our first Skype. The second Skype we crossed the border and met a class who lived near Chicago Illinois. This class experience dealt with questions on goods and services. Our classes then conversed about HOCKEY! The other class inquired about their belief hockey was our main sport. Our class responded loudly yes! (including our non hockey fans in the class)
My students love to work with their older reading buddies. The knowledge our older students have can benefit and help our students learn in a one on one situation. This year students have used math games, language arts activities and story bird. In my classroom I also use my personal I pad for my ELL student. My student who is ELL loves to sit with a partner and work at language games and vocabulary building activities. This activity has shown to build my students confidence, learning and social relationships within the classroom.
This year our students are loving using the IPads. IPads hav provided opportunity for research, differentiation and personal challange. This coming month my students are participating in a field test which will help gather data for upcoming SLA tests. They are ecited and up to the challenge.
