Teacher Quality Standard
Teachers’ application of pedagogical knowledge, skills and attributes is based in their ongoing analysis of contextual variables.
Each class will have a variety of students who come from different families, cultures and experiences. Each student learns in their own unique way. In order to produce an environment that is set up for student success I take all these variables into consideration.
Below I have linked district services that have and in the future may assist my students and their families.

Teachers understand the legislated, moral and ethical frameworks within which they work.
As a teacher I function within a policy-based system authorized under the School Act. Everyday I am aware of the moral and ethical frameworks I work under. Each day I consider and make sure I full-fill that responsibility.

Teachers understand the subject disciplines they teach.
When teaching a grade 2 class as a teacher I need to gain an understanding of all subject areas. I do this by studying the curriculum and laying out a framework that addresses each subject in an effective and interesting way. I also make the effort to look at the curriculum below and above the grade I am teaching to make better connections for my students. By speaking with the teachers in the grade below and above I can better understand where my students have come from and where they need to be when they leave my class. Below is the curriculum I am bound to.

Teachers know there are many approaches to teaching and learning.
Every child is a unique individual and understanding this challenges me to approach teaching in a variety of ways. Montessori is a natural way to offer a child choices in their learning. I understand that there is no cookie cutter way to teach. I love challenging students to think, plan and problem solve. Group work is a fabulous way to engage students and develop their critical thinking skills.

Teachers engage in a range of planning activities.
Planning ensures that I am prepared and organized to present curriculum. Being prepared also allows me to be at ease and enjoy the classroom environment. Planning lessons is crucial but it is also necessary to plan in a variety of ways. This year I have had the opportunity to plan units with my Grade 1 Montessori partner. The opportunity to work with a multi age group is extremely valuable to everyone. Planning can also include faith celebrations, reading buddy activities, field trips and classroom visits. Click below to see some of my examples.

Teachers translate curriculum content and objectives into meaningful learning activities.
In my practice I meet the requirements of the Alberta Curriculum with my unit plans and lessons. In these lessons I also make sure there is a cross curricular goal. One lesson can meet many parts of our curriculum. (Math, Language and Religion) Each one of my Montessori shelves are full of curriculum based activities. Please take a look at the link below to see examples.

Teachers apply a variety of technologies to meet students’ learning needs.
Throughout the year it is important to offer students opportunities to build their skills using technology. Teaching Digital Citizenship is a very important part of this as well.

Teachers gather and use information about students’ learning needs and progress. It is my responsibility to use methods and techniques to guage where a student is at in their learning and figure out where and how the student can find success. This is a partnership that includes the student so that they can participate in self evaoluation and growth. Click below to view some examples.
Teachers establish and maintain partnerships among school, home and community, and within their own schools.
Creating partnerships is key to developing a strong and positive learning environment. I believe that it takes a community to raise and educate a child. Strong connections will foster growth and development and learning. Please click on Grade 2 Relationships to view some highlights from this year.

Teachers are career-long learners.
Everyday is a chance to continue my personal learning. Each day I learn not only from books or blogs. I cherish each day in my classroom and school community. The reason I cherish that time is because I learn just as much from my students and co workers. Below is a chance to see my more formal learning.
